Common Dolphin Photo-ID Catalogue Work

I worked with NIWA scientists on pioneering photo-identification research in New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf, helping to build the world's largest common dolphin catalog. This project developed new methods using dorsal fin pigmentation patterns to identify individual dolphins, challenging the assumption that "poorly-marked" species couldn't be reliably counted through photo-ID—work that has implications for dolphin population management worldwide.
